bio
Discovered at the age of 16 by Humberto Saade, owner of Dijon—Brazil’s most prominent fashion house in 1986—Vanessa de Oliveira quickly became the label’s top model and was catapulted to celebrity status overnight. Just over a year after her discovery, she had graced the covers of every major magazine in the country. She also made history as the first supermodel to appear on back-to-back covers of the Brazilian edition of VOGUE.
In the United States, Vanessa was featured on television programs such as Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. In 1989, shortly before her 18th birthday, it was widely publicized that she had been invited by Eileen Ford to live in her home in New York and join the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency. Instead, Vanessa chose to remain in Brazil, renew her contract with Dijon, and later accepted a starring role in the Brazilian box-office hit comedy Os Trapalhões na Terra dos Monstros.
Vanessa was named Rainha da Bateria of Rio’s Carnaval four times—widely considered the most prestigious title, historically bestowed only upon Brazil’s most beautiful women. The daily newspaper O Globo, the country’s largest in circulation, once declared her the “Muse of Summer.” Beloved Brazilian singer Tim Maia famously said that if he were ever stranded on a desert island, all he would need to survive would be Vanessa’s company.
After marrying television journalist and producer George Fauci in 1992, Vanessa left Dijon, launched her own fashion label, hosted her own talk show, and achieved record-breaking sales with her bestselling fitness video Fitness com Vanessa de Oliveira.
In 1997, she appeared in the MTV Brazil award-winning music video for “Garota Nacional.”
A household name, Vanessa became a regular guest on Brazil’s most popular prime-time game and entertainment shows.
In 2004 and 2005, she hosted the national television broadcast of Rio’s Carnaval for RedeTV, one of Brazil’s major networks.
In 2007, Vanessa returned to the spotlight as a brand ambassador for her licensed product lines, including the luxurious Vanessa de Oliveira Health Club & Spa, a joint venture with the Caesar Park hotel chain.
Now residing in Miami, Vanessa has transitioned from magazine covers and red carpets to television screens. She currently hosts Brasileiros in America, a program broadcast in 11 countries.
